Male longan flowers naturally shed from orchards in central-southern Taiwan, harvested without artificial stripping, embodying high natural integrity and sustainable value. Longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.), belonging to the Sapindaceae family, possesses flowers rich in active compounds such as polyphenols and flavonoids. Traditional applications and recent research suggest longan flowers hold potential skincare benefits including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cellular protective properties.
The raw material is exclusively collected during the approximately 7–14 day peak flowering period each year, using nets to gather naturally fallen male flowers. Yields are influenced by climate, flowering, and pollination conditions, making this an annual limited-edition botanical extract. Approximately 10,000 longan flowers are required to produce 1 kilogram of the extract. It combines low irritation with high functionality, making it suitable for sensitive and repair-focused formulations.
Research indicates that longan flowers contain epicatechin and proanthocyanidin A2, which provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. They have also been found to inhibit proliferation in cancer cells.
