Epimedium (scientific name: Epimedium brevicornu Maxim.) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Epimedium of the family Berberidaceae. It generally grows to a height of 20-60 cm. Its rhizome is thick, short and dark brown. The leaves are biternate; the basal leaves have long petioles while the cauline leaves are opposite. The leaflets are papery or thickly papery with spinose-serrate margins. The flowers are white or pale yellow. The follicles are about 1 cm long, with persistent styles forming a beak-like structure of 2-3 mm in length. It flowers from May to June and fruits from June to August. Odorless, with a slightly bitter taste.
